Samuel Habimana holds PhD. in Social Welfare and Social Research at the School of Behavioral Health at Loma Linda University in California, USA. He also holds a master’s in public health and a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Rwanda. Dr. Habimana is also the founder and executive director of the Rwanda Resilience and Grounding Organization (RRGO), a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting Rwandan communities by fostering trauma recovery, resilience-building, and social function.

With over a decade of experience, Habimana has worked extensively in resilience-building and mental health promotion, particularly in regions affected by war and political conflicts. His expertise extends beyond Rwanda, as he has served as an international consultant for community-based mental health interventions in several African countries, including Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, and Niger. His research integrates both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, focusing on the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), the role of green spaces in mental health, addiction treatment, trauma recovery, resilience, and post-traumatic growth. Additionally, his research interests span public health issues such as HIV, cancer, malnutrition, laughter yoga, and family functioning. Passionate about working with underserved and marginalized communities, he applies statistical modeling to inform decision-making and effectively communicate data-driven insights.
Beyond his research, Habimana provides leadership in coordinating research and training programs while collaborating with various partners. He has extensive experience designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation projects, conducting baseline and impact assessments, and developing scalable, evidence-based interventions. Habimana has contributed to numerous research projects in Rwanda and internationally.

His statistical and analytical expertise includes proficiency in software such as SPSS, R, SAS, STATA, JASP, and JAMOVI for quantitative data analysis, as well as NVivo and ATLAS for qualitative research. Additionally, he has an intermediate understanding of Python for computing and data analysis. Habimana is also skilled in research collaboration tools, utilizing platforms such as Git, GitHub, and Zenhub, OSF to enhance teamwork efficiency and productivity among researchers.
